    What is in the guide

Enough to run the first four weeks on your own. Nothing in it is held back to make you buy the program.

    The physics of speed

There are only three ways to swing faster: apply more force, apply it for longer, and waste less of it. Each part of the plan trains one of them.

    The 16-week map

Four phases of four weeks: foundation, strength, power, and transfer to a real driver and a real ball. Every phase ends with a retest.

    The baseline test

A ten-drive protocol with a fixed warm-up, so the number you compare in week 4 means the same thing it meant in week 0.

    A sample training week

Two strength sessions and two speed sessions with the exercises, sets, and reps written out, plus what to do if you have no speed sticks.

    Six rules for speed practice

How many swings, how much rest, and when to stop. It includes the Three Strikes Game we use to finish every speed session.

    Technique experiments

Five swing changes to test against the radar one at a time. Keep a change if it adds 1 mph without hurting the strike, and drop it if it does not.

Why speed is worth a winter

Distance is not the whole game, but it makes every other part of it easier. Shorter approach clubs hit more greens, and more greens mean fewer scrambles.

    93.4 mph

Average driver clubhead speed of a male amateur golfer.

    TrackMan amateur averages

    ~2.5 yards

Additional carry for each mile per hour of clubhead speed, when you strike it well.

    Launch monitor rule of thumb

    1.2+ strokes

Gained per round from 20 extra yards off the tee, which is roughly what 8 mph of speed buys.

    5 to 10 mph

Our target range for most adult golfers who complete all 16 weeks. Controlled tests of structured speed programs have produced average gains of 6 to 8 mph in six weeks. Results vary and are not guaranteed.

    The Winter Speed Program

The guide gives you the framework. The program gives you a coach, a plan built for your body, and accountability for all 16 weeks. The founding cohort is capped at 20 golfers.

    What is included

An individualized 16-week program built from your baseline test, your schedule, and your equipment.

A movement screen at intake, so the plan works around your limitations instead of aggravating them.

Weekly check-ins with swing video and radar review from Matt.

A retest every four weeks, with a written progress report and program adjustments.

A monthly group call with Matt and Jordan for questions and technique review.

    Who it is for

Adult golfers who can make a full, pain-free swing and train three to four hours a week. You need a launch monitor or swing-speed radar, and access to a gym or basic equipment.

    The coaches

One of us coaches golfers for a living. The other is running this exact program this winter. You get both perspectives.

    Matt Luther

    Matt Luther

    Co-founder and head coach

Matt has more than a decade of coaching experience and has spent his career helping players develop, from juniors chasing college golf to adults chasing scratch. He combines biomechanics and launch monitor data with practical, on-course application, and runs Swing Direction's in-person short game clinics.

    Jordan Saunders

    Co-founder

Jordan is a competitive amateur carrying a 5.4 handicap index and chasing scratch. He brings a data-first approach from two decades in software and trains with force plates, a radar, and the same speed and strength protocols in the guide.

Want the whole game, not just speed?

Swing Direction Coaching is a 12-week remote program built on the system Jordan used to go from a 20 handicap to sub-5, delivered week to week by Matt. One plan covering technique, short game, strategy, speed and the mental game, with a target handicap to measure it against. The founding group is five golfers.
